Bikila Ochoa

Graduate Student in Sociology and Social Policy

Biographical Note

I received my B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in May 2000. While at Penn I majored in African-American Studies and Sociology, with a concentration in Urban Sociology. Presently, I am a third-year student in the joint Ph.D. program in Sociology and Social Policy. My research interests include ethnographic methods, socialization, urban sociology, racial attitudes and politics, masculinity, and social stratification (I have many more intellectual interests than the ones listed here, but space won't permit me to include them all). Currently, I am working on a ethnographic research project in which I seek to understand how jail inmates are prepared, and prepare themselves, for life outside of their carceral setting. I plan on continuing this type of work for my dissertation.
