Matthew Baggetta
Graduate Student in
Sociology
Biographical Note
Matt is a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2001 with a dual B.A. degree in Sociology and Computer Applications and got his M.A. in Sociology at Harvard in 2005. He has done work on personal framing of violence in the Civil Rights Movement, styles of organizing and mobilization in environmentalist groups, and what makes some Sierra Club Chapters and Groups more effective than others. He is now working on his dissertation assessing what effects participation in non-political associations has on members. Matt currently resides in Winthrop House (an undergraduate residence hall) as a Resident Tutor, part of Harvard's in-residence academic and social advising program. There he offers academic tutoring to students in the social sciences, provides general advising to the 40 students in his entryway, and oversees the Winthrop House Drama Society.
