I am interested in general issues
of infant cognition. In the past, I have conducted research using a preferential
looking paradigm to assess language comprehension in 10- and 14-month olds.
Recently, I have become interested in psychophysiological correlates of
cognitive processes. In the upcoming year I will be using event-related
potentials (ERPs) to investigate numerosity in infants.

ABIGAIL ALICIA BAIRD
Entered program 1997 Developmental Research/Training Group (Sheldon
White, adviser) B.A. in Bio-Psychology (Vassar College) M.A. in Psychology
(Boston University). My research focuses on the development of affect
recognition, as well as
emotional memory. I am also interested in how perturbations in the
maturation of these processes may be associated with risk for the development
of psychopathology.

moral judgments: What influences whether someone thinks of an act as right
or wrong, good or bad? What circumstances are seen as justifying,
mitigating, or excusing wrong acts?; (3) NONVERBAL BEHAVIOR: detecting
deceit or hidden emotion, nonverbal communication; (4) HISTORY OF PSYCHOLOGY:
the relation between philosophy and psychology and their mutual influence.

B.A. in Psychology and Philosophy (San Jose State University) M.A. in Experimental
Psychology (San Jose State University) Non-Resident Tutor at Mather House
I am interested in how individuals and groups make decisions and
solve problems. In particular, I want to understand how people construe
and mentally represent decision/problem environments. Often people construe
the same event quite differently. This differential construal may help
and may hinder effective decision making. I would like to know how and
when this occurs.
